All in One (remote control) B&O TV codes
« on: August 05, 2011, 12:51:35 pm »
I saved today one B&O beovision 2502 from becoming  trash.

The Mains cable was cut out,  I add another one, now I am trying to power it on.
It does come to stand-by , but it does not have any external buttons.
No to say that I found only the TV without remote control.

I am trying right now to find the code by a smart All in One TV remote control.

But the searching operation demands the TV set to be on, so the remote to send the power off command,
and if it does, you just found the correct code for it.

But I can not turn it on !!

Is there any know codes that works on the specific TV set ?
Or any one managed to activate one B&O  with another remote control from another known manufacturer ?

Most cheap all-in-on remote controls can't do B&O. For ages B&O uses uncommonly high IR frequencies and charges an arm and a leg for replacement remote controls.
I delete PMs unread. If you have something to say, say it in public.

Why would anyone trash such an expensive TV set?  ???

Unless it's because the remote control was lost?!  ;)
You can do anything with the right attitude and a hammer.

True it was expensive about 900 GB pounds.

Not to say that I love the speakers on it.
If I am unable to operate or fix it, the last that I would do is to save those speakers.

Pictures of it here.

Here is some ir codes from a b&o device in the linux lirc database (the only b&o device there)
I dont know what device this is, but its possible the power on code will be the same.
Looks like the carrier is 455kHz

http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/bang&olufsen/Beo4
(For these devices it looks like the lirc files are in raw mode, where the codes are written as a list of delays.
Most lirc codes are written in hex, raw mode is only used for unusual ir coding systems.)

I dunno what the delay units are, but one might hope it's just nanoseconds or something meaningful.
Maybe check out some other lirc files for other remotes with a known pulse width.

Greek letter 'Psi' (not Pounds per Square Inch)

Its ALIVE  ... ITS ALIVE   ;D   ;D

Oh my ...  there is  two hidden buttons  at the right low corner - front side,
one  power on switch, and  one single button,  that works as  soft-on and channel up.

The TV works, I get picture and sound, but it looks to have an issue, by working for 2-5 minutes,
it power OFF  by it self, and goes to the standby mode.
By pressing the soft on again some times it starts, but soon it goes again to the standby mode.

The power on switch was damaged and I replaced it all ready.
The speakers works, I did blow the PCB and all the internals with compressed air, I did not see any damage,
other than some hot spots on the PCB ( PSU ) from resistors who gets a bit hot.
This is a 20 years old TV, and still looks fine .

But now I need technical tips.
About the issue that I am facing my instinct tells me that I have damaged capacitors.
Did any have deal with a such problem so to help me out ?

If you know any B&O repair man, I would a appreciated if you could ask him, for a possible repair tip.  ;)

I have to admit that I was not aware that Bang & Olufsen  haves so many friends on the web.
With well organized web sites of friends - fun's - collectors.

One of those offers for free every service Manual.
http://beophile.com/?page_id=8253

On another I found the User's Manual.

All that I need to find now, are one genuine remote control Beolink 1000.
I do pay the shipping if some one has any such remote control at any condition, if it is offered as gift.

Ys, Bang & Olufsen make great TVs with good speakers. We only got rid of our old one because the tube wore out causing the colours to become faded any vary at different parts of the picture.

All that I need to find now, are one genuine remote control Beolink 1000.

You could also use the B&O Video Terminal (very similar to Beolink 1000), A9,  Beo4, or Beo5 remotes.

Thanks for all the help people, I managed to find locally one remote ( white one) that it is 100% compatible,
and got it for 12 EUR .

Identical of the KONIG model ( black one).

I did a good progress with the TV set, I checked and replaced the bad electrolytic capacitors,
in every PCB of it.
And I did managed to fix a problem that I had with the stereo channels, as in stereo mode,
the one speaker was stop working ( the right one).

The screen is in perfect condition, only 15% lost of sharpness , but I have other problems with it.

1) I am having a problem with the Horizontal circuitry I can not set the horizontal size on the screen in the screen limits,
is a bit more wider than it should.
I got a tip that I have to use an smaller capacitor, in the circuitry that it drives the horizontal ,
but I do not know who is the one.
Or at list what is the capacity that the original haves, so to spot it.

2) The next problem that I am facing, is an issue with the pulse who activates the PSU from the stand By mode.
for some reason this pulse gets weak, and have problems to start up the TV.
If it did start up , it can work for hours or just minutes, the specific pulse looks to have issues,
and I think that it haves to do with an polyester capacitor or something that haves issues.
I did do lots of soldering looking for cold solder, but it did not work out.

3)  Last night , it started having issues with the vertical hold, and after few minutes of operation the screes starts rolling.
As soon it becomes warm, the rolling keeps happening.
And I have not locate yet the pot that controls the vertical.

I have the repair schematic in PDF , but it is in very low resolution, and there is no chance to read anything about the schematic.
I can read only few tips, and the part list, but no the true schematic.

I had add few pictures of the PCB, if some one likes to help me in a way.  :)
