How could anyone mount to this hole? The bolt head/standoff width or even pcb mount clips would likely hit either the (what looks like a) diode or even the DC barrel TH part.

It may be just a locating hole or a hole to pass the stand from the case that ties two parts of the enclosure. The connectors on all sides would make the enclosure design a nightmare, so a screw hole may not have fit with the design.

Compared to the size of parts around it, it is pretty big for a screw hole. Rarely does one have a need for the strength of large screw to hold down a PCB, M2, M2.5 or M3 is almost always adequate. So I'd tend to agree with ataradov's idea that is is a hole for a plastic pillar to go through.

Or more likely... some arbitrary assembly directed by a graphic designer.

The more I look at that board the more it looks entirely fictituous...

USB type C is so close to the HDMI I doubt you could connect two standard cables simultaneously
USB type C isn't flush to the board edge but the HDMI appears to be (or is at least further in) and the barrel jack hangs off quite a bit
Quite a few large form factor inductors but without obvious related components around them e.g. DC-DC parts...
The large flat silver things (top middle) look like crystal oscillator packages, but why are there so many?

Yeah it does seem like a fake demo board. If you look at solidworks splash screens they'll have design screenshots but also a copyright credit for the company that designed the product.
I guess it could be related to the NanoBoards but I don't see it posted online anywhere, and they don't do those boards anymore.

At least it doesn't look like total crap, its decently mixed parts, support passives, and appears to have traces going to stuff.

What are those vertical metal cans? Some connectors? Weird heat sinks?

They are located in a really weird way, possibly implying artistic liberty.

I really worried about that too every time AD started. I also think the diff pair routing is not optimal and there are no termination resistors visible. Also, to gain more popularity, they should display an arduino priest holding an arduino flashing two LED's. So I contacted tech support.

They informed me that:

1. I can switch off the splash screen:

https://www.altium.com/documentation/altium-designer/system-general-preferences?version=19.1

2. The termination resistors are inside the driver chips. I can't verify that as they didn't provide information about the diff pair drivers. But yeah, silly me, I could have guessed it.

3. As for the arduino thing, they are currently negotiating royalties with one of the most famous priests. But he is demanding a cube with 8 LED's which AD doesn't want because a cube doesn't fit on a PCB. They are hoping to finalize the contract within 4 months. But as with any intergovernmental organization, things can take drastic turns on behalf of the common people.

Yes, I nice cheesy GIF with an RGB LED would be great. :palm:

It's obviously just a fictitious demo board, as mentioned by others. I think they should have sued something more realistic. It would look far more professional and less amateurish.

Vertical launch SAS connectors (fancy mechanical retention of a card edge connector).

PCB seems a bit thin for the number of layers required.
