I wish that more sellers would list stuff in the same honest manner without all the bullshit, deception and fine print.

Also I continued to the bottom of the page to look at "similar items that you may be interested in" to see what else was placed or grouped in this fine category, not very much really, well nothing of this calibre anyway.

Cool :).

Could it be some kind of dim-bulb tester?

Meh!  It doesn't look that bad to me, other than being filthy.  I wish I had some pictures of some of the 1930s military radios that I started out with. Everything was wired point to point with bare bus bars and since it was tube based, the voltages and currents weren't to be trifled with!

Amusing listing, but £38.50 if you want it delivered  :o  At least it's not listed as 'vintage' which is all too frequently used on ebay as a euphemism for 'crusty old junk nobody should pay more than a few groats for'.

I particularly like the live sprung loaded terminals on the front panel, it's nice touch which adds to the death trap vibe :-)

was just looking at this again after i mentioned it to a friend...

noticed there maybe two bayonet light fittings in the top right

there are two breakers, volt meter and multiple socket types

wonder if this is actually someone's test bench and soft-start controller for a variac?

You could always buy it and find out. It would make for a cool YouTube video  :-/O. Alternatively, you could always send it to Dave's mailbag  8).

Looks like some specilized test jig used in most assembly line testing. Filthy is normal for test equipment, why clean it? Takes more time than repair.

P.S. not sure where but I love the posts on cleaning and restoring Tektronix 7x00 scopes. Glad I learned water based cleaners erase markings before I cleaned my stuff.

In the 4th picture is a small sticker that reads:
RS Stock No
507-438

Looking that number returns just the name: Console Case Size 5

If you do get it, don't forget to leave suitable (comical feedback).
Something like "as lethal as described, very happy"
