Anisotropic Conductive Film to repair a TI92 ribbon cable?
« on: December 02, 2021, 08:11:31 pm »
Hello,

I have a TI92 calculator which starting missing vertical lines. I tried to use ACF with one of these Tbar with silicon but not much progress.

The ribbon has yellow "paint"/protective layer on top of the conductive layer pads. When pressed with the T-BAR on top of the assembled ACF strip it conducts (tested with aluminium foil and multimeter/ohmmeter in the other end) but after removing heat/pressure it stops conducting. What is the process? First ACF on the rybon or the parts? Do I need to clean the yellow paint? I assume it produces some hight having the paint. I first tried to apply ACF on the parts so not sure if is the right process, or if ACF goes on the rybbon first.

Thanks for any help,

BR,
Jorge

That sounds like either you're not getting it hot enough or the time spent under pressure is not long enough. What ACF are you using?
