Title: Another investigation into cheap light pucks
Post by: msuffidy on November 14, 2021, 02:55:12 am
The other day I was at the dollar store when I noticed a VERY cheap light puck I felt the need to experiment with. It was similar to the one I had before but it had a 'fade' function that clearly dithers between colors. It has always been my dream to control the exact color of the light puck through the remote. So I really don't expect it to be possible, but there is a SLIM chance you could alter the firmware on the puck and make the pwm feature yourself and alter the NEC remote 32 bit value to some sort of RGB like 6 6 6 bit value or something. So I was looking around and no one seems to have information on what is inside these things. I don't really want to mess mine up, but it expect it to be mask rom and not even re programmable. So you would at best be able to hotwire the driver transistors with a new board inside you make yourself? Also I wanted a rom dump to see if there are any undocumented codes. Here is a video about the new puck.
