Any crazy [US] black friday special offers?
« on: November 22, 2012, 09:41:20 am »
So, I am in the US for a short while and usually during this time of year I've been looking from across the pond with envy at all the special crazy offers. But now I can't find much to get from here :-)

- uCurrents from adafruit are out of stock! (anybody knows how fast is the shipping once they have it back in stock?)
- I wanted a kindle paperwhite but they aren't yet available
- don't really need phone/tablet/laptop
- any specials on multimeters? I don't really "need" anything ... but I might like a portable "premium" one (in the $100-$200 range) or better one not-so-premium-and-expensive that does logging (discussed in the "UT" thread but I really wouldn't take the UT-71 after all the reports here). Or maybe some good LCR/ESR metter...
- some premium camera like Canon G15 or Sony RX100 (although I wouldn't buy a Sony and is quite expensive)
- don't know ... dive computer?

Any other ideas or specific "specials" you can think of?

If you want a good, cheap camera, i don't know if there are any specials on it, but you can get the canon powershot S100 for $250, which is very good for how good of a camera it is.

Thanks but it's completely out of my price bracket (my fault, I didn't specify that I want a "toy" watch-like dive computer...).
Now that I looked at this one is probably for the best: it seems that there has been a recall in September and reports of this particular model blowing up (and also potentially losing your air!).
Better to keep it simple and not mess up with the high pressure circuit!

amazon has some electronic stuff with discounts but I did not find anything interesting or particularly affordable.

Yea, I'm on it, seems to be the proper time to buy flash memory like usb sticks/sd-cards, many offers 20-30% less than the usual (looking at 32-64GB, anything less doesn't make sense to waste time looking for a couple bucks off).

The hard drives also recovered more or less from last year's price hike, I could see 2.5 inch 1.5TB drives and 3.5 inch 3TB drives for $100 or so.

But but but ... Amazon charges sales tax now !!! So the actual price depends where you ship to (I mean which state...)! WTF!

As luck has it I they had a special on S100 and I went for it :-)
I think they were playing some games with the "super-saver" shipping as they had some (dirt cheap 8GB) free SD card coming with the camera BUT even if the card, camera (and obviously the bundle) was eligible for super-saver free shipping somehow they would make 2 shipments (yes, I checked combined shipping) and they would charge 10$+ for shipping for the "free" card; had to play a lot to get the cart to combine the shipping.

And of course gotta get used to this sales tax nonsense.

Still frustrated that I didn't order ucurrents and a kindle paperwhite earlier, now it's too late.

They also have a "too good to be true" special on Kindle Fire, $129. It is probably killing most of the low-end smallish non-3G tablet market; maybe some sub-$100 cheaper "no-name" tablet might have a chance elsewhere but given superb the quality and amazon support/shipping and no-hassle returns and so on I think there's really no competition here. Personally I'm more interested in the paperwhite kindle but still a great deal on "Fire" I believe.
