Any hand vac with brushless motor
« on: April 26, 2015, 07:35:49 pm »
We have a rechargeable hand held vac similar to the one in the picture. It's very handy but is also very noisy (sound wise). Are there similar products with a brushless motor?  I presume they will be less noisy.

Yes there are similar products with a brushless motor but they're just as likely to be as noisy as most of the sound is produced by the fan spinning round, rather than the motor brushes.

As stated the high speed movement of air that makes most of the noise.

Some designs are quieter than others but you need to test them to identify which or read the specs as they often provide a dBa noise figure

The nose sound to me more like the noise you hear from those hand drills with brushed motors. It's very loud. I will look for a unit with a low noise spec.

The noise is largely fan tip speed dependent. Brushless won't get you much noise reduction.

The modern Dyson portable vacuum cleaner has a brushless motor but I can tell you from my own experience, it's quite noisy.

It certainly is, but it's also *far* more powerful than any other portable vac I've ever used.

Get a Dyson V6 (or better), you do not have to clean the filter when they become block, and cleaning out the debrises is also hassle free.  The shortcoming is there is no mounting, you have to put it on the floor or benchtop.

That's also mostly fan noise.

I actually prefer bags. I have not tried the hand-held ones though.
Day and night difference. No wires to tangle, no sockets to jump between, no block to lug behind you, no pangs of lazyness from imagining having to do all that stuff.
You basically grab it off the wall, clean the mess on the spot and put it back.
Really improves your life quality, and emptying is no longer messy after some practice.

But yeah, that 100(-ish?)W brushless motor makes about as much noise as a 2KW job in a regular vac - it's all about the airflow.
