Fake Terabyte USB Flash Drives - Now Available On Amazon Prime!
« on: October 16, 2019, 01:58:04 pm »
This one failed under test, the YouTuber in question has covered a number of other fake high capacity USB drives from other online stores (Wish.com,  Aliexpress, eBay, etc.)

What I find so insidious about those things is how they are practically guaranteed to result in data loss, since they pretend to work, rather than just outright failing to write.

The vendors should just take 128GB drives (which report themselves to the OS as 128GB) and market them as 2TB with an asterisk that says “assuming 16:1 compression ratio”, sorta how tape drive vendors used to do.  >:D

They still do that. LTO-8 is actually 12TB but they call it a "30TB" tape. |O

Rule number one, if something appears too good to be true then walk away.

Rule number two, buy your storage hardware from trusted brick and mortar stores, pay with a credit card and get a receipt. That way if anything goes wrong you can get a refund.

Rule number three, a fool and their money are soon parted.
Should you find yourself in a chronically leaking boat, energy devoted to changing vessels is likely to be more productive than energy devoted to patching leaks.

Rule four: never fully trust big corporations anymore than you can Chinese sellers. Amazon is in it to win it as they say and will stop at nothing to try and crush competition even if that means being shady and selling fake crap.

I've seen stuff sold by major upscale retailers that have reviews of the product EXPLODING potentially causing injury or death. :-BROKE :--
