Anybody used one of the cheap Ebay DC ATX PSUs?
« on: June 24, 2015, 04:03:58 pm »
I recently realised I have my main PC running almost all the time just for web browsing, text editing, and HTPC usage so I've been looking at getting a passively cooled mini ITX system with an integrated CPU to cut down on noise and energy use. So I thought this would be a perfect time to get rid of an inverter and get a DC PSU for the new system. After a quick search I came across an awful lot of these:

very similar boards. Has anybody used one and if so what experience have you had with it?

I have a bunch of them that I salvaged out of some PCs that were used aboard ships to operate a Iridium based Glove i4 communications system made by Global Wireless.  They all work fine.  They came with a bunch of 12 VDC 5 Amp (IRRC) wall warts.  Hmm, I just looked at one of the computers and the back panel says "12 VDC 1.8A".  The mother board is a VIA EPIA-EK.   I don't know about the quality of the ones on E-bay but these look just like them and everyone that I tried out works fine.

PS I just pulled out one of the 12 VDC supplies to look and see if it was marked the same ("Z2-ATX-160") as the 2nd one on E-bay. It's not. This says "Mini-Box.com" on it so you might want to check there. (Markings aren't the same but they may still be made by the same company.)
