LTSpice change 1st parts shown when opening box
« on: January 01, 2025, 10:21:15 am »
Since I've installed some extra libraries, perhaps by some Russian guy ? When I goto select some part like a NPN BJT, when the list opens, it always opens in the middle on some KT940A USSR BJT. So I'd like to change it to the NXP BC547B, how do I do that ? Or how can I change it back to alphabetical if wanted ?

So, Putin hacked your LTspice?!  ;D

To select a transistor, first place the symbol for a npn in the schematic, then right click the newly place npn, and press "Pick New Transistor" button.  A list of transistors should open, with many columns.  To sort that list alphabetically (by the column you want), click the header of that column.  First column is part number, second is the manufacturer, and so on.  If you click the same column header again, it will sort in the descending order.

For example, click the header 'Manufacturer' (the second column), then scroll down to NXP.  You should see the BC547, between other NXP transistors.   Or, you can click the header 'Part No.' of the first column, and sort by the transistor name, then scroll down to the BC547.

If you don't have the BC547 any more, it means the additional library was not installed properly.

I don't recommend installing any third party libraries which affect the default parts list. It makes posting your circuits here a pain because it's difficult to know which parts won't be on anyone else's installation.

My advice is to, copy all the third party libraries to another back-up directory, delete everything and reinstall.

If you've used any third party library in your circuits, then find the file, copy it to the same directory as the .asc file and make a note in schematic.

Well it's the common Bordodynov's lib, and maybe 1 more that I use, which one puts the ZZZ directory in the libs ?

Doesn't anyone else have this problem ? Stock LTSpice, is of course mainly LT parts, and I hardly use anything by them, or know the names of any of their stuff.

Ok so I can have a 2nd install of LTSpice w/ stock parts for here, good idea.

How did you install the additional libs?
In my install when I open npn transistor it starts with original LTSpice 2Nxxx and BCxxx types etc.
The KTxxx are way down in the list..
It depends on how you did install the additional libs, it seems..
Readers discretion is advised..

I installed LTSpice to a folder on a non-C drive, so the main install is not in the user/appdata/local....place. However just looking in appdata/local/ltspice, I see the 'Bordodynov's LTSpice BJT library cmp' directory there, but not in the above place.

Launching LTSpice.exe from where it's installed, the 1st NPN is the KT094.

IDK, I can fully delete all of it, and follow the standard install. Then really I only have Bordodynov's LTSpice lib.zip and Bordodynov's LTSpice BJT library cmp.zip. So where do I unzip them to , the appdata/local .... or to some C:\programfiles directory ?

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/eda/ltspice24-importing-the-a_bordodynovs-lib-and-examples/msg5359154/#msg5359154

Here is my text from above link with some minor edits to be more explicit after some discussions:

Quote
I've tried this and it seems it works (do it at your own risk, do backup your libraries and data before).
1. download the AB's [aka A_Bordodynov] library "lib" and unzip it, close the LTspice24
2. go to C:\Users\JohnSmith\AppData\Local\LTspice where you find the original "lib" folder
3. delete the original "lib" folder and replace it with the downloaded AB's "lib" folder
4. fire up the LTSpice24, and do the update of the components with "Tools->Update components" (it restores all the original LTspice's components properly inside the "lib" structures)
5. restart the LTspice24 (!), you should see the ZZZ folder there with all the AB's subdirectories and components, as well as all the original LTspice stuff when adding a component..

Adding the AB's "examples" library: simply copy the content of the "examples" folder from AB's "examples" zip library into the existing original "examples" folder in the same path as in the point 2 above.
You have to rename the AB's "Educational" folder (which sits inside the AB's "examples") to say "EducationalAB" before copying.
