It's cosmetic filtering (if you're using uBlockOrigin). Disable that and everything is back to normal.

Edit: explained here: https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/Per-site-switches

and known as "element hiding" in Adblock Plus.

You're welcome :)

That is weird.  I don't really understand enough about how adblockers and server cache technologies work, to try and (arm-chair) diagnose, where the problem lies.

On the other hand, if a number of different adblock systems, are all suddenly affected.  I suppose it makes the server(s) and / or advertiser(s), a likely suspect.

More likely shared blocking data. Their is some crossover so likely it will make most have issues.

Ya, I'm seeing it sometimes. Turned adblock off for that page, and three big ads appeared at the TOP of the page, filling way too much of the page. One of them animated. Turned adblock right back on. I'd rather live with the problem for now.

Thank you, PlainName.  I disabled Ublock-Origin cosmetic filtering on this site only, and everything is restored.

Odd issue though ...

The smaller graphics items like the arrow you click on to see the last post from each member in "Show new replies to your posts" was being blocked - BUT only in the list "Show new replies to your posts" NOT in the list "Show unread posts since last visit".

I disabled Adblocker and it now shows the graphics items. But why now? I've used Adblocker for years and it never did this kind of blocking.
I told my friends I could teach them to be funny, but they all just laughed at me.

Somebody, friend or foe, added eevblog com in the blocking list called "EasyList".  >:(
If I uncheck the "EasyList" from the uBlock origin settings, it all comes to normal.

However, I still want to have the other blocks from that list (there are thousands of websites in it), so a workaround would be to make a local copy of the EasyList, delete the eevblog line from it, then import the local file instead (and let the EasyList unchecked in the settings) but I didn't try importing yet.

The right thing to do would be to remove eevblog from the official online "EasyList", but I don't know how to contact the maintainers of the EasyList.  :-//

Anybody knows how to request the removal of eevblog.com from the official EasyList?

LATER EDIT:
I'm browsing from a live OS and an ancient laptop that barely renders any web page, so I can not ask for removal, but found the instruction at the bottom of the https://easylist.to/

If you should encounter unwanted items or problems with the EasyList filter lists you should report the issues in the EasyList Forums. This will allow members to assist you in resolving problems and will notify the authors that the filter lists should be updated, a change that will rectify the issue for all users. You can also request assistance by e-mailing the EasyList authors directly.

Problems with other filter lists should be reported to their respective authors.

Yes, I tried asking ChatGPT, and it seems to know.  I just tried the website it links to, and it seems to be about right.

I/we asked:

The EasyList is maintained by the open-source community, and anyone can contribute to it. If you believe that a website should be removed from the EasyList, you can submit a request to the EasyList maintainers to consider removing it.

Here are the steps to submit a request to the EasyList maintainers:

Go to the EasyList forum: https://forums.lanik.us/
Click on the "Report incorrectly blocked content" button on the top right of the page.
Provide the following information in your report:
The URL of the website that you believe should be removed from the EasyList.
A brief explanation of why you think the website should be removed.
    Submit your report.

The EasyList maintainers will review your request and decide whether to remove the website from the EasyList. Keep in mind that the EasyList is intended to block ads and other unwanted content, so websites that have a lot of ads or other intrusive content may be more likely to be included in the list.

Well, I took a look at things with the AdBlockPlus debug feature on and then added this to my filter list: ##||eevblog.com/forum/Themes/*
All the things that are vanishing seem to be part of the Theme, and the ## says allow this regardless of previous rules.
Sample size is still small, but so far it seems to be working.

The 'Themes' directory contains the CSS and most of the formatting for the site and all the look and layout of the site stems from the theme regardless of the picture or graphic source.

Yup, and since the formatting was still working, it was just the images being blocked by whatever wayward rule is doing it. Overriding it is easier than hunting it down on whichever list its on.

I tried disabling uBlock and everything seems normal. But when I used its logger earlier it didn't show that it was blocking anything except the ads at the top which I had done manually (due to annoying animated JLPCB ad).

I've copied the official EasyList from https://easylist.to/easylist/easylist.txt and pasted its content into my "My Filters" tab, in uBlock Origin's setting page.  There are 3 apparitions of eevblog in there, each on different line, far away from each other:

Code: [Select]
eevblog.com###text-49
...
eevblog.com##[data-pagespeed-url-hash][onload^="pagespeed"]
...
eevblog.com##[href^="http://s.click.aliexpress.com/"]

If I comment out the second apparition in My Filters, like this (while the EasyList is unchecked, of course):
Code: [Select]
! eevblog.com##[data-pagespeed-url-hash][onload^="pagespeed"]
press Apply then refresh the EEVblog page, apparently it all starts to work correctly.

The culprit line was identified by trial and error.  I have no idea what that commented out line means, or if this fix is properly done.

I didn't even know this was there. Disabled it for this site and it does look normal with uBlock otherwise enabled.

But why this all just started today? Ah, EasyList.

It's cosmetic filtering (if you're using uBlockOrigin). Disable that and everything is back to normal.

edit: You know, I remember EasyList and the pagespeed thing (whatever that is) not getting along once before and causing a similar problem.

So I disabled Easylist (soft option) and all is as it was on Adblock Plus so nice sleuthing  :-+

Likely one of Dave's serial 'fans' has decided it would be fun to make some of the site users suffer for giggles  |O either that or someone inadvertently pushed a report site button without knowing what it did and got the site added to the list :palm:

Based on comments in this thread, I disabled my Adblock Plus as well and have not experienced any issues since  8)

I forgot I had the extension on in this browser lol.

Strange how that has such an impact.

Still an odd issue...

I have two different browsers, Firefox and a Chromium derivate. Important to note: The chromium is somewhat older and has not recently gotten any updates for itself. The Firefox is current, though i do not know when the last update came in.
Both with uBlock Origin, with default lists, including EasyList, which was updated two days ago on both.

The chromium browser works, and always properly shows the forum.
The Firefox doesn't.

This not just an Adblocker issue alone.

Did you disable cosmetic filtering on both? That's all that's needed, no dicking about editing lists or whatever.

I use uBlock, Privacy Badger and Ghostery in Firefox. It started working again when I enabled eevblog "tracker" in Ghostery.

I'm getting the same thing, it's hit and miss but avatars and images in general etc are randomly not showing up.   I have all the normal extensions like adblock and privacy badger, but I shouldn't need to disable that for it to work, so to me there is an issue going on.   It's also hit and miss and not all the time, if I hit refresh it sometimes loads the images.

Yeah but then the ads come back, I don't want the ads.

Something amiss then - I don't see any ads at all. Perhaps a different combination of blockers is at work.
