RoGeorge - I've just put a poll on the post. Exercise your right and vote too. Cheers.

I'm posing the question only because, having resisted for years, I have finally succumbed to using one.

It's just for fast solutions where I can't be @rsed to go through the PIC route for a vague idea, etc.

To discover Arduino topics on a given site only, a Google search specifying "site:eevblog.com" besides the search words might help, like this:

https://www.google.com/search?q=arduino+whatever+site:eevblog.com

IMO the real strength of the EEVblog forums is that it is so active.

Nothing is more soul sucking than a dead forum where it takes weeks for replies to roll in.

Every time you split up a subforum into multiples you also divide out the traffic. I think that's more detrimental to the forum than what would be gained.

OP is proposing a new section, like test equipment, repairs, etc... one that says ARDUINO.

There comes a point where topic categorisation becomes more detrimental than helpful.  Being far too specific simply separates information that might be related - especially when you are talking about the diverse membership and interests you find here.

This is just one aspect:
Every time you split up a subforum into multiples you also divide out the traffic. I think that's more detrimental to the forum than what would be gained.

So, in this case, I'm on the "No" side.... but I don't mind the question being asked.

Arduino doesn't even refer to a specific platform anymore. I don't see any good reason to consider them separate from other microcontrollers.

Sections already exist for virtually any issue you could have with arduino projects. I'd say use them or switch to teensy and head to their forums.

I said "no" because Arduino Forums already exist and have millions of posts. Most seem to be noobs with frustrating posts - no schematic, no pics, it's a loose wire or "here is code, why no work?"

I barely see any Arduino-specific threads here.
It would only add another item on the subforum list to scroll past, which is already is quite long.

Very true.  Beyond a brand name, it's hard to define these days.  "Group of platforms that share an IDE?"

I don't think of them as microcontrollers, so wouldn't have gone looking there.  To me, they're dev boards.  Again, hard to define.
Either way, my vote's no.

YES -- but only to keep it separate from other topics as Arduino projects tend to be of a beginner level (not all of them, but many of them are.)

This is not an endorsement or support for the Arduino platform.

At the risk of receiving still more hate,     ;)

I'd suggest No, however if the decision is yes, I'd ask that it be split into two halves - software/coding problems and hardware interface questions.

43oh.com used to be a great forum for MSP430 stuff. Then among came Energia (an Arduino port for MSP430) and killed it. I voted "No", but might be persuaded for a "Yes" if it could be hidden or muted.

I have to admit to a little Arduino snobbishness. This is why it took so long for me to get one and I still feel a little ashamed.  :-[

However, another way to think about a separate area like this is that it would pull all the pesky Arduino questions into one "corral".

Exactly! Just add "Arduino" to the subject and everyone knows what a thread is about.

No it wouldn't - at least without a lot of moderator intervention to move topics - because newbies either don't know enough to care and dump their unimaginatively titled question in whatever vaguely appropriate area they first arrive in, (hopefully not necroposting), or don't have enough experience to make a judgement call on whether their issue is a general electronic circuit design issue, is generic to any MCU, or is really Arduino specific.

IMHO the only hope would  be some sort of topic tagging system which SMF doesn't really do - although there are addons that encourage/enforce topic prefixes - which if no tags were selected, suggested some based on topic content, and also suggested alternative subforums for new topics based on the tags.

It would still probably be a real mess, and cool features come at a price that isn't always obvious up front, e.g. the recent mess with attachments which coincidentally or not, appeared fairly soon after an addon that enhanced inlining of attached images was installed, so any such ideas should be considered with a large dose of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

Anyway, who uses subforums other than when digging for old topics or starting a new one?  I do most of my reading through the links:

all the pesky Arduino questions
Any recent examples of those?

Either nobody posts Arduino stuff here or I'm scarily good at not noticing things I don't care about :-DD

BTW, I rarely venture to the 'microcontrollers' subforum so there is that.

You'll find Arduino related topics usually in "Beginners", "Projects, Designs, and Technical Stuff", "Microcontrollers", "Embedded Computing" and "Programming". They are all over the place, but not abundant.

I do not believe just because Arduino popularized Microcontroller for hobbyists I don't think it warrants its own subforum.
