Why don't science journals simply using long strings of emoji?

Because there is no standard way to include emojis in latex but half a million ad-hoc ways and no-one can decide which to use?

You can still find that kind of content, you just have to actually look for it.  Nothing has changed there.

What has changed is the algorithmic "Attention capture" and 'feeds' does not promote that kind of content.  They instead follow of documented physiological loop mechanics to absorb your attention and keep it captured.

Meta did studies on a group of users... random Joe publics, unware they were being experimented on.  They altered the persons feed to show them things that triggered them.  Then they studied their behaviour (on the platform) over the next few weeks.  Then they repeated it.  They published this in a journal showing coorelation with the "negative impulse" and the persons behaviours over a period of time afterwards.

That is straight out of clockwork orange.... and they got away with it.  They are literally proving they can alter your behaviour and mind state by "forcing" you to watch stuff.  Almost guaranteed to be doing that and far worse today.

subs with millions of members. They must be sooo hard to manage.

4 million is doable with a team of 12 spamming global clock but it depends on the subject matter (first hand experience)

classical openmindedness is necessary, plus moderators observing the actions of other moderators.  A single flavor filtering mind is unsuited to moderation duties: if he cannot help but molest users he has a personal topic irritation.    This current climate of one-way topical censorship is deeply problematic.  Creating a civil space where all "sides" can be civil is the goal amidst premise disagreement.  "safe" spaces are never civil.  Ignoring a certain groups propensity to mash the report button singly or recruited group mashing need be discouraged with a 'be an adult' policy: ignore OR engage.

Discord is not a forum replacement in any shape.

Discord is tolerated malware: it is neeeedlessly invasive for chitchat.  I don't install malware as I don't run antivirus: i use common sense or a vm or a vps firefox snapshot.

by contrast disCOURSE is great

Start it.

Just need to keep it active so it's on the first page. Sticky won't work - people skip 'em 'cos they're old and out of date.
