You don't get it because you don't have quick reply editor enabled in the forum profile settings.

Oh, I see. Yeah, I never used that. To the point that I forgot it even existed. I don't quite see what's the big deal here, but it's a matter of habits. The annoyance is that you get posts in the reverse order when in the normal editor. OTOH, if it helps making fewer posts, we may be better off. ;D

I don't see how this is possible because the error is very clear and obvious and it is in the site javascript. There may be two servers serving two different versions of the javascript. But the issue is not on my side. That's for sure.

And just to clarify, I mean the edit mode shown in the attachment.

The point is that it all worked before the change, then some random change got applied, screwed up everything and nothing...

Realistically I don't care. But it might affect other people too.

The only issue I am having is when editing right after posting. I do it a lot as I don't proofread my posts.

Looks like I am saving to one database and reading from another when I go to edit. All my changes go.
That and the changes I made don't save the first time.

Not sure how the SQL is setup here, are we writing to both SQLs or is it some master/slave setup but the replication takes more than 2 seconds?

please don't cancel me for using master/slave terminology. I have bills to pay

Quotes working fine. Might be out of the loop on it all though.

The issue is not with the database, it is with the client side javascript. The code that runs when you press "Save" button has a bug in it. you can see it logged in the console in the developer tools. Your  changes are never sent to the server. It is a very simple fix.

Can confirm, the "quick edit" thing doesn't work.  At least, just trying it real quick, it sure doesn't seem like it.

I forget it exists too... I always use the Modify button.  Maybe because years ago I tried that and it didn't work...

The JS bug is identified and obvious; all that needs to be done now is either correcting it locally, or notifying responsible parties so they can push an update (and then updating the forum).

Ah, i haven't replied in a number of threads because the quote button doesn't work anymore and i don't want to bother doing it manually.

probably for the best?

Has always worked fine for me  :-//

Set aside the style of quoting. Everyone has preferences. But inline editing for a quick typo fix is faster and easier. And that is broken too.

Plus with the full editor you have to look at that row of stupid animated emotes.
What's that ?
If you use the Modify message button within the post body there are zero emojis.

You guys can see a "Modify" button next to other peoples posts?
I thought that was only a Moderator tool that lets us edit other people's messages if needed.
The Quote is what you use to reply to and quote a post, and has always worked for me.

No, we can't. Or at least i cannot ;)

But again, there is a difference with another somewhat unknown feature. Again i personally was not even aware of this, and only found it just now when looking for it.

Hit the "Modify" Button at the top right of your post, and the Editor opens on a new page. This works fine, at least it does for me.

But there is also an unlabeled button in the bottom right corner on your posts, directly above the logged IP. Click that, and similar to the Quick Reply window, you can edit your post directly without loading a new page. But after clicking "Save" you are booted to the starting post of the thread, and the change is not saved.

EDIT: Added an image of this post, labeling the buttons i'm reffering to.

Apparently it is the quick reply that is not working for some, you don't see it when it is disabled in profile settings - look and feel. It's a text entry field that appears below the last post in a thread, you can type your reply there and click the save button. They say that after clicking the save button nothing happens and/or the system hangs. I just tried it and it works fine for me, so ymmv  :-//

Testing the bottom right 'modify' button... If you can read this it works for me.

Yep, the bottom right modify button and the quick reply both work fine for me (W10 & Chrome)

That lower right button does not work for me. Like you, i'm on Windows 10 and Chrome as well.
It also does not work on an iPad with Safari.
It also does not matter if uBlock is enabled or not.

I can test Firefox on Manjaro Linux in a couple of hours.

EDIT: iPhone
Weird, it works on an iPhone in Desktop View. I would have assumed it would behave the same as the iPad.

OK I turned it on in my profile and I now see the "LOADING" message that never goes away when quoting.

Now turning it off like it was.  :)

I told my friends I could teach them to be funny, but they all just laughed at me.

You are using default forum setting for the editor. This is fine, we can just focus on the in-line editor, which would be broken even for you. This is not affected by any settings.

There is nothing you can do on your side to get the quick editor back. You can change the setting for the style of the editor, but all that will do is make you go to the full editor every time.

I've never used quick reply, and I've never had a plugin break something else.
I can try completely removing the plugin I used, let me try that.

Ok, I've completely removed the SMFPacks WYSIWYG Editor (which was disabled), does it make a difference?
(I noticed a difference in the quick edit button, but like I said I never used it, so not sure what the exact problem was)

 :phew:
So the plugin didn't really disable itself when you told it too. Nasty bug.

FYI, I notice that SMF version 2.1.13 has been release, and IIRC v2.1.x is supposed to have some UI improvments, including a new editor I think?
Should I try the upgrade it in the new year?
I'll have to have a look a test forum using it to see what's it like first.

The "disable" was the issue. It disabled itself by setting a variable. The issue was with checking for the value of that variable. It was not observable because it defaulted to the new editor, so when it was enabled, it all worked even though the code was still wrong. When it was disabled, most of the functionality switched to the old one, except for the couple places that still tried to use the new one.

Dynamically typed languages are just bad.

No.  (The "new" editor is the buggy one we've just tested. ;D)

Later edit:
-------------
Tested 'quick edit', the change was not applied, and after 'Save' I see the first post from page 1.
Not asking to fix the quick edit, only feedback (can use 'Modify' instead).

Is there a way to annotate members with your own notes? A number of times, I've wish I'd remembered certain things about a member to ask when I see them again.
