I had a recent thread on Mastodon which got voted with little interest. But I was wondering if there are any other services/apps/whatever that people would like to see added to the EEVblog.
i.e. something that could be of benefit to the existing community here?
I don't know what those things would be, that's why I'm asking.
And I'm talking thing that would run on the EEVblog server locally.

Good idea, I didn't even remember such wiki existed.

I don't know if this functionality exists and I don't know how to use it, but I would also like to be search by poster, since certain posters seem to have a high density of interesting content  to me.

Search by user is already available on the forum's advanced search page: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/search/?advanced
replace the * in the By user: box by the exact user name, or by a partial user name with * as a wildcard, and also put at least one search term in the Search for: box.
You can also exclude selected sub-forums e.g. if you don't want to read their ramblings about Cooking!

1) Attachment/Pictures is number one priority
2) For me, getting a better private messaging system is the second priority

This board has what I experience as the worst PM functionality I ever used. You cannot manage conversations, no attachments are possible, no way to download PM's for archive, etc.

What about a new software entirely?  https://www.vbulletin.com/ comes to mind...

may I propose a test equipment picture database:

Often only a test equipment designation is given

And often enough I'd like to see the corresponding
picture, preferably by way of an in-line link and not by needing
to find a picture through an external search.

Would you consider changing the forum software completely? SMF shows it's age.

Several communities i'm a member on are using Xenforo (www.xenforo.com), and i came to like it a lot. It is modern, with a seamlessly scaling UI depending on your device, and at the same time keeps the look and feel of a forum. Unlike for example Discourse 
The WYSIWYG Editor works well (and can be switched to a non-WYSIWYG Editor), and you can just drop an image into any post inline, or attach them as well. A well working notification system. A great quoting system, giving the opportunity to easily avoid fullquotes.
Its paid software, but it is not expensive.

Though of course i have no idea how much effort a migration would be. They say they have a SMF 2.0 importer, but i have no idea how well it works

But only as a last resort. Lost the highly valued "Tonmeisterforum" forever because of such a move. Conversion didn't work and backups also didn't work. Was an extremely valuable resource, I am missing every day.

Ooof, that hurts. But that the forum was lost that way shows incredibly poor planning by the webmaster of that site. Test your backups, people!
