Some people will waste an inordinate amount of time & expense, finding "the correct component", when there are very effective "work arounds" using more readily available parts.
I have seen this with not only chips, but simple BJTs, capacitors, & resistors.
OK, sometimes, this is the result of customer rules, or Govt regulations, etc, but in many cases, it is just a silly mindset.
I was spared from such nonsense for most of my working life, working mainly in Broadcasting, where, if it worked, was reliable, & the equipment itself still met specs, modifications were not a problem.
Going from that to an environment where production was held up for two days because they ran out of 1.1k resistors used in a non critical circuit where they could have used 1k or 1.2 k, (which we had hundreds of), instead, had me doing this:-
