Since I've still got boxes I'm yet to unpack, I figured it's probably time I catalog my belongings (mostly the electronics and high-value gear so I have a record of serial numbers, value etc...').
In the past I used a simple Excel spreadsheet but when certain items with unique serial numbers were accessories (or "children") of a parent item, then things got a bit messy. It'd be good to have a concise database for insurance purposes.
A nice feature would be some type of 'alert' which reminds me of items that require maintenance, servicing or calibration. It need not be automated via e-mails or SMS or anything, just something that pops up when you next go into the program that says "Hey, this item needs attention".
How does everyone else do it? Suggestions for software?
