This is neat.

I have actually used one.... (Real PDP-11)
Hmm ... I suppose other users of a PDP-11 , now can guess my "haircolor"   ;)

Now if only there was one for the 68K, I'm at a point where i can easily replace the control hardware of an old bit of test gear, but i know bugger all to replicate the functions of the software, (its a 1MSPS spectrum analyser)

I used to own one, and used it to make money writing/supporting PDP-11 software.  I stopped using it around 1990/91, and got rid of it when I moved in 1999.  There is very good emulator software freely available. e.g. SIMH, that will run real PDP-11 operating systems, etc.  I spent part of a day a year or two ago setting up a Unix system to run SIMH with RSX-11M-PLUS V4.3.  It was considerably faster than any hardware PDP-11 ever built.  About as soon as it was working I realized I had no use for it, nor any interest in nostalging over it.

Now if only there was one for the 68K,
There is emulator software for 68K: Google it.  I don't know if there is any way to easily repackage any of these choices to support an embedded application like a spectrum analyzer, though.

Cool.  But unfortunately, like most emulators, it probably won't work with original peripherals.   :-//
Maintain your old electronics!  If you don't preserve it, it could be lost forever!
