ATTEN MS-500 review anyone (or just APS22-5A)
« on: February 08, 2024, 02:15:23 pm »
Hi,

Thinking of buying a soldering station with hot air gun and I was first looking at the ATTEN ST-8902D.
But then I learned that soldering iron can not be replaced with tweezers.. not that it as very important,
but.. why not buy something that I will be able to build on and to be able to use tweezers would be nice..

So instead I looked at the MS-300 and MS-500.
MS-300 has the "old technology" type of soldering iron and the MS-500 has the "new technology".
(Note; that I used the quotations when talking about soldering irons types..  :-DD)

That leaves MS-500..

Found reviews for the soldering station and hot air gun..

ATTEN ST-1509 Soldering Station

ATTEN ST-862D Hot Air Gun Station

Also the tweezers (N9100)

Both soldering station and hot air gun has got pretty good reviews, haven't found anyone that trashes them.
..but I cant find anyone that have tested the Power Supply (APS22-5A)

Has anyone out there bought the MS-500 or just the APS22-5A and are willing to share your opinion?

3-in-1s should generally be avoided. In this case its just 3 devices screwed together, so unless its cheaper there is no reason to get it:
MS-500 = $440 shipped
ATTEN St-862D = $180 shipped
ATTEN ST-1509 = $170
ATTEN APS22-5A = $170

So at the current price its like getting the PSU for ~$100. I would not pay $100 for that PSU, and I'd rather have a JBC clone for $170, but its up to you.

Agree, the APS22-5A PSU dont look that impressive.. or actually looks kind of crappy.
Just liked that they fit nice together and when I more or less get all three for same price as two.. so why not.

I was hoping someone would say that the APS22-5A is; "great!" or "not bad at all"..

darn it.

Edit: just saw something at atten.com,  "coming soon"..

Please say its a better PSU!    ;D
