I have seen a lot of angry people vent against the Prime Minister - is it justified? --- End quote --- If this is too political, can delete. But if you want to understand the anger, there is a summary and video here: https://old.reddit.com/r/australia/comments/ekmro0/dear_your_majesty_friendlyjordies/fdcq6ky/ youtube.com/watch?v=buw5WufsP5k |

--- Quote from: Specmaster on January 06, 2020, 05:49:44 pm ---I don't know where Dave lives, is he out in the sticks or in the city? I hope he and the family are OK. --- End quote --- Using this: --- Quote from: MrMobodies on January 06, 2020, 08:50:52 pm ---Found a nice simple map: http://google.org/crisismap/australia --- End quote --- ... I've placed a dot where Dave's lab is located - and he lives not too far away from the lab. As you can see, this is somewhat in the geographical centre of the Greater Sydney Metropolitan Area - which is principally a suburban environment which has scatterings of parks and a few bushland reserves. These areas are served by local fire brigades which (although not always easy) have better access to much of the area than bushfire situations. As such, Dave is not under any direct threat - aside from the risk of having a hot ember drop from the sky and cause a problem ... which is something that most people more than a few kilometres from a fire zone do not lose any sleep over. What we mostly think about is the impact to those affected, both firefighters and affected communities. |

I just saw this video on YouTube and wondering if this was such a good idea. I mean she managed to save her home and lived to share the footage but how incredibly risky is this: --- End quote --- It is incredibly risky, but I salute the people who put a lot of effort and take that kind of risk to save their house. The video mentioned that the family had a fire bunker to retreat to. In the video it is a young 19 years old woman saving her house by taking huge risks; in her mind the house was worth it. I salute her. This remind me of the people who prepare for a coming flood by building a water dam around their house, install several sump pumps in their basement, several water pumps around the house, several power generators, have huge reserve of gasoline, and than will remain awake for several days non-stop to make sure their house stays dry. I salute them all. :) |
