Beckman CircuitMate 9020 - Teardown
« on: October 19, 2012, 08:34:48 pm »
Had the Oscilloscope open (both channels were not working)
Found the AC/DC Coupling Switches blown to bits (somebody had tried to scope mains)
Bypassed the switches, as I really only need AC Coupling for now.

Took Pics of the Open set for anybody interested (Old School Electronics Porn):

Is that a deflection yoke around the CRT neck? Never saw a scope that used a magnetic deflection CRT....

That coil is to do trace rotation, to compensate for ambient magnetic fields. Used to get the trace aligned with the graticule.

I put the scope on top of a speaker cabinet when trying to use it. There was at least 30cm between the scope and the speaker driver, and the trace went about 45degree diagonal!. Had to balance it on a cardboard box to increase the spacing by another 30cm. Then it came right. Very sensitive thing.
