« on: June 19, 2015, 10:00:05 am »
Ok so ordered a triac the other day, yes one little triac. Got a parcel delivery today, box was about 10"x 6"x6"..... triac inside.

I got excited as i thought it was something major coming and all it was was a triac  |O :palm:.

They paid somewhere between 40 and 50p to buy from Rapid http://www.rapidonline.com/Electronic-Components/Bta06-600b-6a-600v-Isolated-Triac-47-3408 so they would have had approximately £1.50 to spend on postage. I doubt that they could have got a parcel delivered for that much so they must have lost money on the sale.

Goods Total   £0.507
P&P   £3.99
Vat @ 20 %   £0.8994
Order Total   £5.40

CPC (part of the Farnell group) pull this sort of thing all the time.

They take their standard small parcel box which is 300 x 150 x 150 mm, put a couple of components in and fill the space with those little polythene air pillows.

It's especially bad at the moment since they are offering free delivery on everything.

Incidentally, they would have sent that BTA06 for 61p.

Always fun looking at strange packaging. Though sometimes its probably easier/cheaper for them to just use whatever they have to hand, even if it does seem inappropriate.

Well, the seller name explains it all. They are clearly set up to sell big chips, and lack suitable packaging for a single small one...

I ordered some manhole covers, and they arrived by courier. 3 all neatly stacked on a half pallet, nicely tied down with both pallet wrap and banding.

Already had the one stolen, and as it is a GRP resin casting it has no scrap value, unlike the cast iron cover it replaced. Next one will have a locking mechanism, but not the OEM one, as they want $300 for the lock, for a $40 cover. I will just buy some more covers at $30 for the cover alone.

Courier had to take the 90kg load off the back of the truck without any handling equipment..... Not exactly something ( aside from the frames, which are breakable, as I found out removing the old ones with a jackhammer and crowbar) a courier can actually break short of driving it over with the truck or a forklift.
