Binding posts for BMI-PSM3/UNI-T UTP3335T PSU
(1/1)
WaveyDipole:
I am working on a BMI-PSM3/UNI-T UTP3335T 3-channel PSU for which I paid a fairly high price as a working pre-owned unit in good order but unfortunately a binding post was broken in the post and needs replacing. A fairly easy repair I thought and settled for a discount with the seller.

The unit does have some upgrade potential as the PCB is printed for 4-channels and populated with many of the required components but with the notable exception of a key voltage regulator IC. It just needs a few more parts for a second fixed channel of 3.3V which would be great for Arduino projects and the like.

That aside for the moment, I am having trouble sourcing a suitable binding post to replace the broken one. The replacement I purchased (right on pic) from Aliexpress has two problems: 1) the shaft is a few mm longer; and 2) the shaft is narrower by 1mm - 3.9mm vs 4.9. The handful I have here do not fit either - all too short. I couldn't find an identical one anywhere and the couple of e-mail exchanges I had with Uni-T were very curt and basically a dead end. Does anyone know whether and where I might be able to source the exact same binding post?

The second possibility is to drill out and widen the PCB holes marginally, but they are plated through holes and drilling would break the front-to-back connection. There are other vias are present from front to back, but not heavy duty enough to handle the current, so short heavy duty wires could be added linking front to back, but it would look a bit messy.

On the replacement binding post, the beige plastic colar needs to be omitted in order for the shaft to be long enough to reach through the PCB and allow the nut to be screwed on. I am not sure whether the smaller diameter metal plate might cause stress against the plastic and crack the front fascia? The rear is re-enforced with a tubular spacer between fascia and PCB.
