Blender PCB Rendering
« on: April 06, 2022, 09:51:16 am »
I've been working on a Blender add-on to help with rendering KiCad PCBs and thought I'd share where I'm at so far. Here's a rendering and the real board for a comparison:

Wow, looks amazing!

Maybe something that could eventually be integrated into KiBot?

Currently it's just taking the VRML files from KiCad and doing the rest in Blender. The exported files have issues and take some work to clean up. I think I'm reaching the limit of what I can easily automatically fix within Blender so a KiCad extension to export better data would be the next logical step. Here's another render and PCB photo for comparison, ignore the nonsense IC markings, I was testing out materials for them:

Looks very cool...

It can also be cool with povray...

SUGGESTION TO MOVE TOPIC TO KICAD SECTION...

you may need expertise advice in parsers used by kicad... like xsl and may be PERL
