Title: Blogging Microphone + Deadcat
Post by: boffin on March 24, 2018, 11:32:03 pm
Is anyone else surprised that Dave doesn't have a Deadcat for his microphone ?

I would think just from the name it'd be a no brainer

Not at all. I worked in video production and deadcat's only really have one function and that is to act as a wind shield without affecting the acoustic pick-up of the microphone (i.e.: you don't get that "muffled" sound).

The are normally used outdoors or where fans/air blowers are present.

If you're filming indoors, even in an air conditioned environment, wind screens are hardly ever required.

Pop filters however are very useful in voice-over recording.

But yes, it's true, a good cat is a dead cat.

Maybe he has allergies.

But Halcyon is right. That sort of sock is only necessary outdoors in windy situations. Indoors, in a studio, it's not needed.

whoosh, right over everyone's head.

I would have thought Dave would have jumped at any product called a deadcat, and it has nothing to do with acoustics.

I think it should be called a "Mikes bush"
