so where is the link? the BBC are a mess.

I think my main additional source (I'd read it and the BBC article, a couple of days, ago approximately).
Was/is here:

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2020/04/17/iran_coronavirus_detector/

The new BBC 'scrolling'/paragraph-sections news pages thing (linked to by OP), doesn't seem to allow links to its direct articles (paragraphs, i.e. short news snippets, rather than linkable web pages), sorry.
Also, it seems to have disappeared (from a look by me, through all apparently available pages it had. But it could be somewhere on the BBC website, I also tried searching for it).

Their "smart Covid-19 detector" bears an uncanny resemblance to three fake bomb detector tools, sold by four British fraudsters more than a decade ago, which ended up in conflict zones and were used by a number of governments around the world pic.twitter.com/moE0F3gaEU
Perhaps they should take them to court and sue them for IP violation. :palm:

Is this a challenge?

NO NO NO!!!!! You are all missing the point! The purpose of these devices is to convince the public that they work, and then you can go around using them... When  someone who is trying to conceal that they have COVID-19 symptoms sees one, they will give tell-tale signs (shifty eyes, fidgety, cold sweat) giving themselves up to the authorities. Like when people pass through border crossings, security or checkpoints and they are hiding something they will behave differently, nervous, etc. The bomb detector is useless but this device may actually work because it is used on people with psychological effects at play!!!!  :-DD

Yes... That's what confuses me. Apart from the OBVIOUS that the 'Video' above is a load of Clap-Trap, WHAT is their apparent purpose or gain from fabricating or showing it????  What large or secular 'group' or ignorant individuals are they trying to 'appease/appeal' to ???  Or are they just trying to gain some 'Brownie-Points' with the rest of the World?? (No Horse out of Troy for me!!  :) )
Diagonal of 1x1 square = Root-2. Ok.
Diagonal of 1x1x1 cube = Root-3 !!!  Beautiful !!

Nope, you can't patent stupid for legal reasons:
 - prior art dating back millennia
 - stupid is in the public domain. To prove my point, talk with 10 randomly selected people for 10 minutes.

That Iranian detector isn't of much less use than a contactless thermometer or a FLIR cameras at an airport. What? An issue with corana virus is detecting asymptomatic sufferers. Two thirds of asymptomatic infections will not show an obvious thermal response. You are likely to look 'feverish' on a FLIR camera if you've just run up to the airport gate, but not if you were infected and stood stationary in a check-in queue for an hour. The consequence is that highly contageous individuals might not show up on a detector, fake or real. Only a blood test is accurate - unless it's one of the fake ones now in circulation. I trust to voodoo over 5G.
