Dave, is this really the best you can do?
« on: January 31, 2011, 01:04:54 pm »
You are always talking about how you are swimming in multimeters. You are out there blowing DMMs up with high voltage and dropping test gear down canyons. An unspecified number of character LCDs? Is that really the best you can do for a contest born from your own radio show? Don't be such a tight ass.

you want the prize? or you want the spirit? you choose, but not both. neither? dont enter the contest. and imho, there is no need for a new thread, just update it in 555 contest thread. Cheers.

I definitely want the Fluke 287 and the Nan0b0ard but I'm already all booked with other contests this month.

Well. From the glass half full side of the EEVBlog. I'm glad to see us there, and offering a prize.

Why don't YOU donate something to Dave, so he may donate it, then?

Pointless thread.

Fair enough, although ill skip the middle man. if Dave can dig up something extra to offer the budding engineers of Australia (besides another 16x2 LCD), I will put up a prize (for US).

Who is ANY man, to judge the generosity of another? Would you hover around a person collecting for charity, and tell people off if they only put pennies in the tin?

This thread is oh so stupid.

I wonder who said this:

Wow, a LOT of people on the internet really need to stop taking comments from STRANGERS so flipping seriously. We're all human, and we are ALL hypocrites.

So you're calling him a hypocrite?   ;)

I miss when EEVBlog forum was more about EE and less about whining.  I hope that's not too hypocritical of me to say.

I've been seeing a lot of whine threads fill up with whining lately, people whining about one topic or another, people whining about the whiners.  I'd just like to take this opportunity while this thread is already pushed to the top to remind the people whining about the whiners that if you don't post, it goes away faster.

It doesn't do much for your post count, however, sorry for that.

Is that really the best you can do for a contest born from your own radio show? Don't be such a tight ass.

a) This contest has nothing to do with me or the radio show, it is all Chris Gammel and Jeri. Chris mentioned The Amp Hour because he's a co-host, his call.

b) If you were following the tweets and other news you'd know that the prize was originally advertised as 40 (forty) x LCD display modules. I upped that estimate to 70 modules. I pitched this to Chirs and Jeri as essentially a "lifetime supply" of LCD modules. Obviously Chris chose not to include that detail on the web site and just put "multiple".
The prize is actually how ever many LCD modules fit into a 3kg postage satchel. By weight that's about 70 modules, but I'm not sure that many will physically fit, I'll have to try it.

How much are they worth?, I don't know, let's say at least $5ea, for 70 modules that's a $350 prize.
Many places charge over $10ea for them.

c) What do I get out of offering a prize? Absolutely nothing, zip, nada, almost certainly not a single extra viewer to my blog.

d) Don't be such a whining dickhead and run your mouth before you know all the facts. You could have simply asked "how many is "multiple" before making a complete and utter fool of yourself in public.

Dave.

Dave.

Ouch man, I kind if expected there to be some kind of a catch. What I absolutely did not expect was for you to take it so seriously.

What catch?
if you thought there was a catch with the prize then why didn't simply ASK instead of complaining and calling me names?
How was I supposed to take it?
There was no smiley or hint of sarcasm in your post, you seemed deadly serious on calling me a tight arse (twice no less).
I responded, gave the facts, and told it like it is.

Dave.

I thought it was obvious from context. The only evidence I have of that is when I offered to put a prize myself in post #9 (which was my intention when you reveled the catch which I figured was that you had something else, I didn't see the 70 LCDs coming). Live and learn.

Cafelogic, you're pleb of the week matey. Why does it matter WHAT he is giving away? Dave doesn't have to give anything away, and what skin is it off your nose, anyhow?

Kindness is kindness, it's not measured or calculated. Grow up.
