Hi!
After hearing the amp hour #34, I wondered:
What kind of electrodes do you use for brain control?
I mean, you can't use these sticky ones from the hospital.
You can't possibly convince people to cut off their hairs just to play computer games.
What would you use for bigger distance (through the hairs)?
Coils? But they would pick up every shit flying around.
What do you think?

Best to just wire a direct line to the stem. What harm could come of that? *glitch*

Hmm.
There must be an easy way.
I tried out coils of different sizes, but they just picked up noise.
No good signals.
As I said, sticky electrodes work best!

This isn't easy - it's at the cutting edge of scientific research.
I'm not saying give up of course, ordinary people have made scientific discoveries in the past, although it's more rare nowadays.

Listen to AH#34, they said it's already used in toys.
How do they do that!
I'm keen to know it!

The toy versions that I have seen generally use electrodes on the frontal lobe (which normally isn't covered by hair). However that method generally isn't great as you have to think specific things to give commands so it is hardly an improvement over "normal" interfaces (ie it is clumsy and "unnatural").
For over all cortical sensing the standard is a "hair net" covered with electrodes that poke through the hair. But these require a lot of alignment and fiddling and you still can't acess the muscle control areas well (doing this normally requires penetrating electrodes through the skull).
Neural control methods are going to be a gimmick until we get, safe, direct neural interfaces.

What kind of electrodes do you use for brain control?
Now that depends entirely upon what kind of brain control you had in mind. Odds on your electrode choice for controlling the brains of others would be quite different from those you'd select for control via your own brain.
The real problem with brain control is that it's so very rare! ;D

I wonder if there's a spot in our nasal cavity, mouth or throat, that is closer to relevant brain tissue to better pick up this activity. Stick a pill up your nose and suddenly you can Tweet your thoughts? Don't laugh too hard... ;)
