No, it's a bit more subtle. For example, most sites will detect a Firefox adblocker and slam an "in your face" message on the screen. Less ubiquitous browsers fly under the radar.

The whole business model of Brave precisely revolves around ads. "Brave ads" is at the core of the whole thing. They have heavily marketed it as being very safe and 100% preserving of privacy, giving users 100% choice, and while that may look true on the surface, a number of people who have dug a little deeper have seemingly found some dubious practices. It's not all roses, and the following is just one example among many:

A rather recent one is not very pretty either:

I for one have been wary of brave for these reasons and wouldn't recommend it, and I know many early adopters have since moved away from it, but everyone is obviously free to make their own mind about it. To be fair, all web browsers more or less rely on the same kind of things to fund the underlying company/fundation, so there's something to be said about pretty much all of them one way or another.
As John said above, one exception may be Thorium which is a recent newcomer - it's based on Chromium, but 100% "un-googled" (yes there was already a project called "ungoogled Chromium", because Chromium itself still contains links to Google, but when I tried it, it kept crashing, so yeah. Not very ready for prime time.) Thorium looks interesting, but it's currently just a one-person project, so likewise, stability may not be the best.

I use Brave only for YouTube because I find ads in the middle of videos very disrupting and annoying. I do not remember seeing any ads of any kind.
For pretty much everything else I use Firefox with Noscript, Bypass Paywalls, etc.
I do wonder how long the Brave YouTube trick will last though. I expect not for long but I will use it while it lasts.

Browsers are the new OS. We do so much using a browser. I don't have an issue with ads etc. I remember what Yahoo was like before Google came along. I remember shareware and adware just be able to get something done. The internet allows me to do so much more for free, I just have to put up with adverts. If the website wont work for the adverts....I just dont use it.
