Anybody remember this 80's magazine circuit?
« on: November 06, 2024, 11:49:15 pm »
It's a long shot I know. I think the mag might have been Practical Electronics, mid 80's. The circuit was a SLA battery charger based on a LM3900.

I no longer have any interest in SLA batteries, but I've been looking for LM3900 circuits to study and I remember I was going to build it at the time but never got round to it.

Does anybody remember this - able to provide a scan, even?

Don't remember that one in particular, but TI put out a nice application note for the Lm3900.

On a slight tangent, make sure you download those articles/magazines, you'll never know if internet archive goes offline again.... the next attack could be irrecoverable.

Immediately after I posted the question I found the archive at https://www.worldradiohistory.com/Practical_Electronics.htm so I've been looking through those. No joy so far. Always find interesting stuff in the past though. I keep stopping to read...

After a bit more thought, it might have been early nineties by which time there was a chance I'd seen it in EE or possibly Elektor, or even somewhere else.

So I'm going to be having some fun with this one!

Thanks so much for the archive link - don't know why I didn't think of them myself  ::)

Already read the app note :)

Use 'Norton' as a search word.

Well so far no luck finding it. Thanks for all the tips though - it has led to some interesting other stuff and some other LM3900 circuits to look at, so I'm happy-ish :)

Xena E - Norton brings up many related things
quadtech - it's not that I need a battery charger, it's because I wanted to study the circuit, since I didn't understand it when I read the article originally, but now I am all curious because I have some LM3900's to play with.
Zoll - I know the app note is dated 1972!

Not sure if it's from the same magazine, but it's from the same era.
