Created a website listing all EEVBlog Episodes
« on: June 02, 2014, 02:59:26 pm »
So I got tired of trying to hunt and peck using Youtube's wonderful interface, and wrote a quick (hah) script that uses Youtube's data api, and grabbed a list of all episodes, and inserted em to a database.  It's been helpful for me so far (search for mailbag and see all of the mailbag episodes).

Would anyone else be interested in seeing this/using it?  It is currently only updating when I run a script, but easily added to cron to check hourly and auto-insert the new items.

I didn't want my first post to be just a website link, so wanted to see if there was any interest first.

Edit: Yes, I know about the playlists on the channel, but trying to hope Youtube keeps track of viewed videos, is always a crap shoot, so this works slightly better for me.

Yes, please.  :-+
There is no discernible organization to the seeming-random operation of YouTube.

Neat way to keep track of episodes. But it only has series from tvrage.com because it uses their api. Maybe something similar for EEVblog episodes? I find their interface working and some features are just extra.

Here's what I have so far.

http://kc0udt.cloudns.org/eevblog/

I was thinking of how neat it would be (if I can be bothered to do it) to allow a login to it, to let you mark episodes watched, so that you know you have it tracked (at least tracked better than the 'tube can do).

Right now, it's just a largeish HTML page, using jquery + datatables to do the "pretty" table/sorting/search/pagination.  No other functionality is really included so far.

Very nice and very useful! Would be useful to have it integrated in the official eevblog.com site.

I'm more than willing to pass the code/schema along.  Will require someone to setup the Youtube API key in the google dashboard however.

Whoever is in charge of the site can contact me, and I'll get the stuff over to them.

It's processing through right now, so it may take a few minutes before you see everything listed.

Interesting.  You did some good work.

A minor feedback : declar the content as UTF-8, so that text like "µRuler Shipment Update" will show up properly"  (it's between eevblog #535 - #536)

Also, would be nice to sort by episode number (currently  2, 3, 1, 4) and have page links with episode number ranges, and make the episode titles also links.

Just my two cents (from a active lurker), it would
be nice to have "all" or "9999", added to the
list of 10, 25, 50, and 100 "show entries".
thanks and regards,

Hrmm, would have to figure out a good way to alter the sort order for it.  Unfortunately, it's "natural language" sort when you do a sort on name, and defaults on "posted date" otherwise. It's doing 1, 100, etc.  It's not the best, but it's how it is today (I will work on it).

For the episode number, you thinking something like 1-100, 101-200, etc?

Episode titles as links: done!

"All" is now an option for you!

I've already fixed it at this point, so it appears correctly for you :)
