Can I ask a question about ... our Universe?
jmh:
If I remember correctly there was an episode of Dr. Who where the doc stated the purpose of life is to keep meat fresh...
m k:
Since universe seems to be expanding without a force and distances are growing from nothingness, it's possible that our measurements are actually shrinking all the time.
Bud:
The purpose of life is in self-reproduction. No reproduction- no life.

No. Hubble expansion happens in intergalactic space. On smaller scale there is no expansion. Our galaxy is not expanding, neither does the Earth, nor do our measuring equipment calibrated against standard.
The standard itself is defined in terms light speed and time standard (1 meter is the distance light travels in 1/299,792,458th of a second), both invariant to the Hubble expansion.

That is true, but still does not answers the question why life came to be. If it is only for reasons of reproduction why is there then death?
You see, there will always be questions onto questions in this matter. No conclusive answer as to why.
Bit the same as to what came first, the chicken or the egg.
