Can I connect a USB 3.0 microscope to my phone?
Alex Eisenhut:
The idea being to use a Samsung S10 as the screen. I have ordered what is claimed to be a USB-C to USB 3.1 cable which is blue, so it's not a USB2.0 adapter, which I already have.
I know the usual mouse / keyboard stuff works fine in any phone, but I never tried a USB 3 microscope.
Do you think it would work?
Halcyon:
The only way to know for sure is to test it.
Samsung and other Android phones support a surprisingly large number of external devices including displays, storage devices, network adapters, even USB floppy drives!
I routinely use my Dell laptop dock on my Android phone.
Alex Eisenhut:
Is there a word for "there's no reason it can't, but we do it on purpose to be needlessly complex"?
Caliaxy:
Most likely not, or at least not directly. I bought a cheap endoscope for pipes (camera + LEDs at one end of a 15 ft semi-rigid cable, USB at the other end) advertised to work on any MacOS or Windows computer and on selected Android devices. Android required an app called "OTG viewer" or "OTG endoscope" or similar. There are quite a few of them on Google PlayStore (most of them free). Per seller's advice, I tried a few until I found one which worked on my combination of Android device and camera. I remember the seller mentioning that the endoscope does not work on Samsung phones (but it might have been specific to that camera).
Maybe you should ask the seller?
Alex Eisenhut:
Great, my cable arrived and it's just a blue USB 2.0 connector on the other end. ::)
