Has anyone successfully removed scratches from an LCD?
This is a Nokia 5110 and the metal cover does come off to give access to the screen. Maybe some 1000 grit wet/dry sandpaper and then rubbing compound? Or would I just wind up with a foggy display?

Toothpaste works wonders.

Try a buffing wheel...

for the 'plastic' cover part.

1000 grit wouldn't be sufficient, 2000-3000 would be necessary but you need it to be done evenly, which is hard, and you need to not break the lcd, which is even harder.

Aren't those LCDs available on eBay for like $1 a pop?
Is it really worth wasting the time/effort when you could replace it for pocket-change?

It was $5 from Deal Extreme (from China). The two I bought came from China already scratched. Looking on ebay, it looks like about $3 and another 3 weeks for another lottery ticket shot at it.

They're most likely pulled units.

No that's not the case, it's due to shipping.
