Can no longer reply to a thread
« on: November 26, 2013, 06:45:43 pm »
Hi,

I've been replying to a thread several times today, but now i don't have the reply option. I can 'unnotify', 'mark unread' 'send this topic' or print, but no longer 'reply'

If i go to other threads, i have the reply option, but no longer on the current thread i want to respond to  :-/O

Any ideas  :-//

Many thanks

 :)

Original creators can lock threads? This is bad.

Now,now, you know he's easily upset  :scared:

But to be honest, you have to have a sense of humour in electronics, especially when you have a client who want's 10 changes, but only tells you one change at a time, when you've implemented the last change  |O

And to be honest, i did so something similar with a window alarm  :-DD

We have two cats, and in the summer we leave the back door open for them to come and go as they please, but so did all the other cats. They all came hungry and went away full.  :box:

So i knocked up a pir and a window alarm and a mirror so when the siren went off for a set 1/4 second i could look to see if it was our cats or the bungy nickers.

Anyway, on first trial, the youngest went to go out, so i watched for first impressions, casually strolled towards the door, pir saw him, hit the siren, well you should have seen the bugger move, I’ve never seen a cat jump so high vertically and then move backwards so fast, so fast in fact his front legs were moving backwards faster than his back legs, he ended up about 10 feet backwards from where the pir picked him up, he literally did a running back somersault ending up with his arse in air and his head on the floor. I couldn't help it  :-DD :-DD :-DD :-DD :-DD

Well, now it's just a dull beep  :-+

It's interesting though, if i hear a single beep, i know it's one of our cats, if i hear a series of beeps it's another cat hovering around the door.

Saved my a fortune in cat food  ^-^

And yes i have had bunnys, but ones that run around the garden and can see the sky, not locked in an apartment room with no fresh air.  :--

And of course I chose the general direction of engineering because my #1 strength is the handling with care of people that are easily upset.  >:D

True dat. Although if you do it right, the main gripe you should have is loss of time and loss of efficiency. Hours spent are hours spent. If a customer insists on poor change management, oh well, here's the bill.  :-//

Doesn't work if the person insisting on the change is the project manager who has allowed just enough time for one of the changes and has assumed it will work (and pass all the required safety and EMC regulations) first time.

I locked the thread because it went way O/T, and I didn't want to see any more of you thinking you had the right to condemn me on how I treat my rabbits. Especially given that you live on a different continent.

This is what I mean. Who's to say they don't go outside? You have absolutely no idea, and absolutely no place to assume or comment.

Besides, I can't believe you would just let your rabbits run outside unsupervised, I'm surprised they didn't get picked up by a hawk or a fox. Oh wait, I have no idea how you had your outside run set up. Now I just sound like an ass  :-[

There was no intention to condemn or judge, it was, well, bunnys  :-+

Everybody loves bunnys ( well apart from farmer brown  :-// )

I hope nobody comes up with goldfish  :-DD

I went to see Tracy Chapman live, years ago, and on stage the first thing she said was,,,,

Two fish swimming up a river,
On swam into a concrete wall,
The other one said Dam  :-/O

In the US of A you get bunny inspectors, who are there to ensure that bunnies used in a theatre as a part of the act are well cared for, fed, watered, have regular rest periods, regular psychiatric attention so they are not stressed, full medical care, written disaster relief plans and an old age pension plan.

If you kill it as part of the performance ( ALA Ozzy Osborne) then no inspection needed. They were classed as "essential personnel" during the US government shutdown.

It totally works. The key is clear communication and expectation management. And where applicable (depending on target audience + moneys involved) throwing everything on e-mail to make sure there are no "misunderstandings".

I used to fall for much of the same, but when you get enough of that shit on a weekly basis you either figure something out or go bananas. :P Just point out the cost for unscheduled change XYZ and what it means for the current deadline. Do you still make to make the change at this point, because there are risks. And then you confirm that over e-mail. Have fun with your temper tantrum when things don't work out, not my problem, I gave ample warning + an assessment of the risks. :-//

(this of course works best if somewhere in upper management you have an okay for this, because if all PM's whine that you are "difficult" then that's not a good thing. If however you make the best use of resources and get shit done for properly managed projects while incurring a little punishment for the PM doofuses, then this method works pretty well IMO)
