Can not read MMC card
« on: October 11, 2016, 04:43:14 pm »
I have an old MMC card from my broken Nokia 6600. I want to get phone numbers of it, but no card reader I have tried will read it. Some of them recognise it as 128 MB card, but that is it.

I remember that with this phone if you format the card usig computer, phone will not recognize it. If you format it usung the phone, it will work in phone but computer will not recognize it. That was the story back then.

Is there any software that can fix this?
I do not have any phone to insert this card in.

Definitely try it on a Linux box using the 'dd' command.  I read and write filesystems that Linux has never heard of and there is no problem.  Blocks are blocks and bytes are bytes.  As long as Linux doesn't need to understand any more than that, it's happy to read and write blocks.

I don't know what file system does it use.

I have tried on Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows 7.
In Linux, it recognises it as 128 MB card, but can't do anything except format it.
In Windows, it only asks to insert drive, and nothing can't see it.

I don't know how to use that "dd" command. In fact, I do not know how to use any commands in Terminal, other than "sudo-apt-get" and similar. :/

You could try TestDisk:
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk
It can detect  and read many file systems and PhotoRec can recover files from almost any filesystem, even broken ones.
