One thing that people seem pretty ignorant of, is that a lot of these people are FORCED to do these “jobs” with threats of violence, or through sheer desperation. You can often hear the desperation in their voices. Yes they’re doing wrong, but how dare ANYONE refer to someone as a “scum bag” without a deep knowledge of their environment and circumstances.
All very well to cast aspersions from the comfort of a safe environment in a far off land. Modern slavery is calling you at home, have some compassion, and step down from the easy high horse.
Bollocks. Sorry. But, scammers are paid money to do their "job". Yes, they don't make huge money, but a tech support scammer working from a call centre in India will take home a greater than average salary plus they receive commissions from successful scams. The myth that these guys are anything other than scumbags seems to be spread by the scammers themselves, it doesn't make sense.
That said, the phone scammers are making maybe 5-10% of the money, the boss takes the rest. The bosses are able to remain immune for quite some time because they either bribe the local police or have government connections.
