Cannot make links work because of the $ sign - Help
« on: December 11, 2016, 09:08:58 pm »
In another post I tried to include these links but they do not work.  I think it has something to do with the $ sign and operator problems

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/blog/eevblog-954-how-to-setup-an-electronics-lab-for-$300/msg1088467/#msg1088467

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/beginners/the-$250-electrnoics-lab-a-suggested-setup-for-beginners/msg265338/#msg265338

I tried using the Insert Hyperlink icon and that was worse.  There must be something I am doing wrong because I found the second one from another link

Is there any way to make these links work ?

thanks

------------------------------------------------  EDIT

will try this --->   ""[url = URL ] Link text [ /url ]""     Had to insert spaces to make the quote work

this worked  :-+

test to 250 kit

thanks    I will work on my other post if there are any responses to it

I have no clue but that's nothing new, I posted four dollar signs in a row the other day on a thread and they didn't show up in the post, anyway it's a good reminder for me to try it again.

1.  $
2.  $$
3.  $$$
4.  $$$$

It should have looked like this below.

they work - how did you do it ? - if I copy your link they do not work ?

You are doing what I do with Yahoo, highlight a section and paste in the link, but I do not know how to do that here

thanks

I had to use the url tags like this:
Code: [Select]
[url=URL]Link text[/url]

For some reason the dollar sign messes things up -- could be something to do with the MathJax plugin?

This has been a problem for quite a long time now. No sign of it getting any attention. It isn't just "$" signs. Here is an example I cut from a previous post I made a while back. And my attempt to fix it.

I think perhaps your example is best fixed like this?

I am going to have to learn how to do that.

Click the "SHARE" icon on the side panel, and then check the "Short URL" box on the pop up dialog.

Try replacing the '$' with '%24'. I am pretty sure that this character needs to be URL-encoded. (syntax is percent sign, then two hex digits of ASCII character code)

Let's see, what happens if I write this?  $X_C={1 \over 2\pi FC}$

Oddly, nothing.

I have to backslash the dollar signs, like this: \$X_C={1 \over 2\pi FC}\$

Which makes me wonder, what exactly is going on with the $ in links?

Wouldn't it be simpler for everyone concerned if there was a fix that could be installed? Why should everyone muck about working around this bug?
Maybe the powers to be do not know about it?

Funny - I just noticed the $ in my title so that means no one can link it  :-DD   and I was complaining no one can link to a $   :-DD :-DD
