Can't install driver for Furuno GNSS Conductor
(1/1)
WPXS472:
Just acquired a Furuno VN-872 and when I installed the GNSS Conductor software to talk to the GT87 GPS, the driver didn't install. I got a message saying the install software couldn't be run on my operating system. Windows 10, in this case. So, I tried compatibility mode and it ran, but failed with a message saying it couldn't be installed. This happened on 2 different PCs, both running Windows 10. The VN872 has a regular serial port, and the documentation says it can be used for communication, but I could not get it to work. The software is supposed to use USB by assigning it a com port number, which it didn't, of course. The GPS seems to be running because it is putting out 1 PPS. I just can't look at anything it is doing, and can't make any adjustments either. I do have an XP machine, but I doubt the software will even try to install on something that old. I can update tomorrow with more detail about the messages I get. Just wondering if anyone has had similar problems. I know the VN-872 isn't a very common gadget, but I thought it worth a try.

Uh, never mind. The problem was Windows 10. It wanted nothing to do with the FTDI drivers. Installed under XP and everything worked fine. That GT87 is one fine GPS receiver. After only a few minutes of operation, it compared favorably to my Thunderbolt. No sawtooth error at all that I could see. Can't wait to slap my GT88 in there and see what it does. Furuno says it is about 3 times better with respect to 1PPS timing.
