Jeesh, what is your obession with DVD Drives?
There is only *one* way to reliably store data over a long period of time: Redundancy, more redundancy, and even more redundancy (meaning multiple copies on multiple different media, stored at multiple locations) in combination with regular checks of data integrity of all involved media, and then additionally the regular replacement of media or even storage technology.

To answer your question: Yes, it is very likely that electrolytics are used in *any* electronic device. That includes DVD drives. To know for sure, ask the manufacturer (who will very likely not answer), or buy the drive and tear it down.

That's dedication. I have not spent this much time doing research when buying a car as this dude buying a DVD burner.
