With a change here and there, I could live in that apartment.

Not to mention the yearly cost of $323K for the Homeowner's Association dues, the $2.65M for property taxes and the $1M for homeowner's insurance.  Oh, then there's that pesky mortgage too if you aren't paying $250M in cash.  (Figures courtesy of Zillow.com)

I wonder how many people would have telescopes/cameras pointed at those top floor apartments? I bet you more than a few.

That is baller.  :-+

Of course, $250M invested even reasonably throws off around $1M/mo that you could spend and still have the $250M grow on average over the long-run. Would I rather live in that place or spend $1M/month? Easy: spend $1M/mo.

Which people who could afford it mostly don't actually live in it. The uber-rich property market is essentially an inter-generational wealth transfer mechanism.

Seems unlikely. Perhaps the most expensive apartment for sale.

Looking at the height of the apartment / angle line of sight, unless those inside are next to the window, you will only get a view of the ceiling.  You would have to be really high up, or really, really, really far away before you could see deep into the apartment.

People do things on glass panels like that  ;)

Ridiculous, you could get a literal proper mansion with much more space, in some region of countryside which was beautiful for a tiny fraction of this. I think large country estates with included mansions in the UK are much less than a tenth of this.

I'd be annoyed by the time it would take to duck off to grab something from the garage - not to mention the walk if there was a power outage ..... or a fire  :scared:

Has Dave outgrown the Altium building already.   I suppose he will need more room for the next idea.  Solar airways.  The plane pulls solar panels behind it.  That is what the new secret pic24f powered project is?  :)

A tour of what is currently the most expensive property for sale in the world.

Which people who could afford it mostly don't actually live in it. The uber-rich property market is essentially an inter-generational wealth transfer mechanism.

Also, the uber-rich don't look at a house property as "I want to live in NYC because my family/job is here" -- but rather, "I need a place in NYC because logistically its nice for whatever business I need to attend in the region and/or overseas on travel". Plus it being a neat tax/investment vehicle.

But if its for living, honestly for this money I wonder where the private helicopter pad is. There are plenty of big airports around Manhattan, but none of them are in Manhattan. Is an uber-rich person really going to deal with "bruh was late to meeting because rush hour traffic (or any traffic in Manhattan)"? If their time is worth ten of thousands $/hr, then no: if they can afford a private jet with its own chef onboard, then they can also afford to have them flown onto their house.

Rurally this is a lot easier and makes way more sense IMO. There are plenty of airfield residential communities for the rich (that also happen to be aviation geeks), and private airstrip houses for the uber-rich. And I don't mean an airstrip for a Cessna Caravan, but more a house like John Travolta. If it's somewhere rural it also blends in a lot better with nature and becomes a lot more cozy.

Oh and for John Travolta I guess it needs to be rural, because I'm not sure anyone would want to have such a plane take off on a daily basis unless they are avgeek as well. Those turbojet (not turbofan) engines are so incredibly loud it exceed all modern noise ordinances.

But hey, as an average Joe these kinds of homes are far out of reach. Beggars can't be choosers (-:

How? You'd still need to prove the source of the funds.

If anything it's more about a safe haven for investment - Chinese investors in particular were limited in the cash they could take out of the country, but they could buy an unlimited amount of property in their own name.  This became a common way to extract wealth into 'friendlier' nations.

The UK countryside is a heck of a commute to Wall St.

Property prices in city centres are notoriously high. However, if you look in more detail you'll find homes near well connected commuter transport (e.g. metro stations) are considerably more expensive than those with a longer commute time. Convenience has huge monetary value.

It would be a fun place to visit but I'd never want to live there, there's no space outside. For that kind of money I'd expect a few hundred acres of land, I need somewhere to put a proper workshop, and a place to store toys like cars, ATVs and boats and such, and space to fly model airplanes. I can't even imagine why someone would want to live in the middle of a concrete jungle like that, I loath urban environments but I'm glad some people like them as it keeps them out of the places I'd be willing to live.

Nothing more convenient than not having to commute at all. I suspect a large majority of the jobs that are done in typical office towers can be done remotely, in my mind the downtown   urban business model should  be obsolete and remote work for any job where it is possible to do should be incentivized and strongly encouraged. It's totally silly for tens of thousands of people to move back and forth twice a day from homes spread around to big towers downtown just so they can sit at a computer on a different desk.

The UK has a long history of trying to coax businesses out of London, to set up large office operations in smaller cities. There are a few success stories of things like insurance companies moving large operations to the smaller cities and staying there a long time. However, there aren't many of them. People aggregate. Its human nature.

I meant remote as in home office. I work remotely from home, I go into the office about once a month, doing so every day is a complete waste of time an resources. My job is almost entirely done sitting at a computer and my teammates are spread across multiple locations anyway. Many jobs can't be done remotely but any that can should be.

Rooftop helipads are banned in NYC since 1977.
