Cheap Chinese DC circuit breaker do they work ?
« on: May 16, 2018, 08:04:37 am »
Hi folks
I think this will be more to general chat than real technical question

What can I expect from somethink like this: 2P 25A DC 440V Circuit breaker ?
Can it work ?

Brand one start at prices at least 10 times higher and goes much higher so it is huge difference in price, but how much is in quality ?

Hi Miyuki,

if you buy me some, I may be able to have them tested, especially including the breaking capacity.  Not sure if I would be able to do it right away, as I have little extra spare time and still need to book some time in that lab (but that should be of less problem than my time).

If you are interested, please send me PM.

Y.

//EDIT: In this case of a safety feature such as a breaker, I would never want to cheap out on these things. The breaker may work one, two, three times, ... and then your house burns down.

If you are able to test them it will be great I'll send you PM

In critical applications is better to have backup fuse (for example here where I live is required to have fuses before main input circuit breaker at house, they are few steps higher rating than circuit breaker but have much higher breaking capacity if something serious happen)

Bigclive on youtube test a lot of similiar cheap items from ebay. In summary: some are great, others are complete crap (and sometimes literally death traps). Even if they are great I have found that often quality control can be lacking, so one device might work fine, but the second might blow up. If it is for something critical, especially safety related, I would go for a proper brand name one from a reputable dealer. If nothing else just to cover your ass. If it goes up in flames in the future and the insurance company (etc) finds out you have been using dodgy parts (according to them) then it doesn't matter if it was your fault or not, it will be enough reason to give you the blame.
