| Cheap CPU fan LED not working |
| (1/1) |

I have a cpu fan that has 4 red LEDs. Today I took the side panel off and noticed one of the four LEDs is off. This is not a big deal because I have a case that is mostly solid and you only see glimmers from inside. I am only concerned about a dangling wire somewhere. I don't want to take the fan out to inspect it, but it is either a case of a connection point is messed or a LED has died. The dangling wire problem could lead to a short. I have a photo earlier of the fan working, and it seems they were all working then. So that makes me feel it just died. Does this happen often? I had a case I got cheap once because they had problems. One case what happened is a molex plug powered up some LEDs on the front. I noticed that touching certain spots made the LEDs come on briefly. I took it apart and noticed the LED leads were touching I guess a conductive channel so I re snotted them and they were fine after that. I think this means that at some point a 5V line was basically shorted. What kind of effect on the PSU and the rest of the computer could this have? That case, several years later, one of the 4 blue LEDs no longer works as well. I think all these were missing the resistor you usually put in the path of a rail. |
