Title: Cheap scope meter
Post by: G7PSK on August 03, 2017, 08:44:39 am
I came across this video last night, a review of a cheap scope meter so thought I would share it here.

Funny you posted that video as I only just watched it a couple of days ago when I was looking into these meters, they state 1000 Volt CAT III on the front and 600 Volt CAT III on the back so the manufacturer whom I think is Bside doesn't even know, I wouldn't touch anything that had a POW button anyway just in case.   :o ::) :P

I do not think Fluke would appreciate the use of their trademark ScopeMeter for this cheap thing. It seems barely better than the awful handheld scopes that Velleman used to sell. Except that I do not think those were sold as CAT III 1000 V.

I've got one of those old 5mhz blue/green Vellemans,

afaik they did not  'fudge the Cat'  with ludicrous voltage ratings,
although I had no trouble using a 10x probe on 240v mains with a full rubber shroud on the cable's BNC end

They were ok for the price at that time, if you had a use for them.

That said, if you didn't have prepared written personal user notes/settings, they were near impossible or a hassle to remember how to use them   |O
