Check out this load of gear I bought yesterday.
« on: April 10, 2013, 03:23:14 pm »
I met a guy at a live action that said he has extra scopes and other equipment in his warehouse and he only deals with really expensive medical gear now. So he told me to come have a look.

I brought 400 cash with me headed over. And made the offer of $400 for this package: 2 LeCroy LA303 200Mhz 3Ch scopes, A Tektronix 2211, A HP8601 Generator / Sweeper, A HP5328B Universal Counter. He excepted. Wonderful.

So I am pretty sure I got a good deal. I think the LeCroy scopes are awesome. They are smooth and work great.

So my goal is to sell off the excess and end up with a free scope and maybe some extra cash.

What do you guys think? Here is a picture

a bit expensive... 100 would have been my bid and then only for the two lecroys (if i was in the market for analog scopes).
The lecroy's are rebadged iwatsu's. the 2211 is of no interest to me and the hp stuff are old clunkers.

I think that 400 dollars is incredible!  200mhz scopes sell fast on ebay.  It should be easy to get a decent margin.

Still good, I like the 2211. Got a load myself this last weekend, mostly odds and sods, but hopefully some working stuff there. Important was the nice 300W dummy load resistor, and got a pair of weller irons as well ( still to test) and a nice LED clock ( still have to figure out how to set this one though) and some R&S stuff along with a HP scope. Also some random stuff, and a PS2 to destroy.

How so? I can make all my money back on the counter and generator / sweeper. I bought it from a guy around the corner so no shipping

Yeah but people are interested in the old clunkers and I intend on selling the "clunkers". I didn't buy them for me. I just want a free lab and some extra cash.

Nice! The 2211 I think will need  a bit of tweaking... but thats all the fun.

in that case :great buy.

if you are starting out : i'd keep one of the lecroys and sell the rest off.

Yes good idea. The LeCroys I think trump my other 3 oscilloscopes.. the Tek 2211, 2225, and the 2235.

I am going to keep both the LeCroys and sell all the other stuff.

really ? 400$ is a lot of money . the old hp's i consider 'scrap value ( even though they sell on ebay ). the tek is a mediocre scope. the two lecroys are also so-so ...
my last foraging costed my about 300$ and netted me an AFG2020 , two 33120's, a 3324, a rohde@schwarz SMU and some other tidbits...

Well that's good for you, and maybe analog test equipment is losing value, but I'd pay $400 for all of that...if I needed it...which I don't.

There are two frames. One is a Sopwith Camel WW1 plane. The other is a Skipjack Sail Boat. I should be getting those finished in the next 6 months.

I'm with cwalex on this one, you're lucky to find a second hand scope of any kind here for $100 (broken 5mhz included)

Same anywhere in EU. Particularily the eastern part. Only old stuff you can buy most of the time are USSR-made clunkers, and there have been a few threads lately as to how 'well' those are built.

Maybe it's different in western EU, but here you can hardly find any old Tek/HP/LeCroy quipment at all (not to mention the fact, that nowadays everything needs to be recycled properly, so those things aren't gonna start popping up on the market).
I love the smell of FR4 in the morning!

Here in France, you can find some test equipment but you'll not like the price. Sellers on local auction or advertisement sites have a very disproportionate view on the value of the equipment. While some nice deals can be found, this is the exception rather than the rule.

For me, UK is the place to shop. For all my car, electronics or mechanical needs, I go to UK dealers (stand-alone or eBay). Come on, I have found new Facom (a rather good French tool company) stuff in the UK at half the local price. Phew!

I also like German sellers. They are rather very serious about their business, but they prefer more expensive shipping solutions.

Best regards,
Dan

Indeed Facom is a nice brand. I have a small 1/4" socket ratchet wrench from them and it's survived really serious abuse :). I think same tier as Bahco, Gedore and Proxxon.
