China boycott next?
« on: March 14, 2022, 09:12:14 pm »
Re the Russian war on Ukraine, it is very fortunate that Russia makes no electronics; in fact they "make" very little of anything.

But if China supports Russia (I hope they won't be so stupid) everything will change. Forget the £1.50 ESP32 versus the £5 ST32F4xx. Forget a lot of electronic components actually. You will be paying $0.10 for an 0805 resistor at the list price from AVX, instead of the no-name-and-his-dog Chinese resistor at $0.002 which most of us buy.

I am extracting a moulding tool out of there, which I was trying to do anyway (the moulder increased the price 3x and stuck a finger up) but I am very happy to be doing it. Much of Chinese business is run either short-term or very-short-term nowadays, with blatent opportunism bordering on extortion.
