Engineer Contest...
« on: January 22, 2016, 10:48:45 pm »
So I want to hold a contest at my startup where the winner gets a prize. Have you guys heard or done any cool contests at work or school that all engineering disciplines could honestly compete in? I want to do a catapult/trebuchet contest but the mechanical guys will surely win...

It has to be something that could be built in a weekend and on an individual basis... And not that dangerous lol

There was a Guarana power drink contest at uni recently. Had to think of a way to land an egg safely(or not :D ) from a few meters. Engineers being mostly caffeine addicts flocked at the opportunity for free drinks. Solutions were presented outdoors for the whole uni to watch and laugh, was too busy :(

  • Why shouldn't we question everything?

"from a few meters"  Oh, this is the kiddies version? Real engineering courses have been running this for decades, from the top of 10+ story engineering buildings. No parachutes allowed.
It's not that hard. Magic words are 'progressive crumple'.

You play around with eggs in "real" engineering courses? Ashamed to say that we make robots, oscilloscopes and microwave components at ours :( Will mess around for a carton of guarana and fun ;) Any solo competition based on skill is going to be inclined toward some sort of engineer, better make it fun and creative whatever it is. More options with team play.
