Chopper mystery
(1/1)
eti:
A mystery if ever there was one. I live in a little picture postcard village in England, somewhere in... England! 😉 Next door to me is an Old Rectory, the various owners of which I’ve known for nigh on forty years (it’s a small mansion)

The Thurs and Fri before last (23rd & 24th Sep 2021) a chopper landed in their garden (the field right next to mine, no more than 40m away), lingered around for 5-10m then shot upwards and headed directly to land in the grounds of a Royal Estate in Windsor (Thursday), and the same occurred the next day (Friday) only it went to Ascot this time.

As you’ll imagine, I’m not willing to say any more than this. What I would like to know is this - apart from the flight radar tracking I already have for these events, is there a discreet and non-intrusive and LEGAL way I’m able to tell what this chopper was doing and for whom? I appreciate it may be highly confidential, moreso what with it heading to and from Royal properties.

The new owner of the aforementioned Old Rectory met me yesterday, looking for a mislaid Amazon parcel, and I joked with her about what fun it had been to have a chopper hovering around next door. She mentioned something obscure about “I’m so sorry, I hope it didn’t make too much noise” and something about someone having just passed their chopper test etc. I didn’t and wouldn’t probe or pry, especially with a new neighbour on the same day I’d ever met her the first time - highly inappropriate.

Just wondering if there’s some form of public data I can access to see why it was there? It was great fun to see this HUGE Bellranger hovering above my garden - it’s far from a daily thing.

Thanks.

The cops round here wouldn’t be up to the task. Besides, they’d likely tell the local rag and drag the tone right down. I have more respect for my community than that.

Oh, a helicopter. Thought you were talking about a chopper amplifier  :palm:

In the US, non-military aircraft registration information is public domain so if you can correlate the FlightAware or whatever radar data you have to a specific aircraft, the owner of record usually turns up more info with minimal effort. Your mileage may vary.
