Cleaning boards, removing flux from PCB's
(1/1)
NJ-Tom:
I've been keeping sane during the COVID-19 isolation by working on a project, but I'm not sure how I will be able to clean boards. My current procedure:
* Techspray E-Line Flux Remover, scrub with toothbrush.
* Then rinse in a container filled with 91% isopropyl alcohol, scrub with toothbrush.
* Then two rinses with distilled water. There tends to be residue remaining after the flux remover that the alcohol does a reasonable job of cleaning off. (and it's fairly safe to use) Of course, it is impossible to get isopropyl alcohol anywhere, and I don't have much left so I don't want to waste it on cleaning boards.
Any suggestions on how to improve my procedure / deal with the lack of alcohol? Use a different flux remover? Just use more of it?
If it helps, here's what I'm cleaning up from:
* Solder paste: MG Chemicals 4900P-250G SAC305, Lead Free No Clean Solder Paste
* Solder wire: Kester 24-7068-1401, Lead Free Rosin Activated (RA) Wire Solder, Sn96.5Ag3Cu0.5
* Desoldering braid: Soder-Wick 80-4-5, Rosin, Non Activated (R), Lead FreeI also have to figure out an alternate way to clean the remaining paste off the stencils.
