Clouds got in my way--lack of them!
« on: July 02, 2012, 04:58:55 pm »
On Saturday,my other favourite Forum,QRZ.com,went walkies in the biggest way for 12 hours, due to a power failure causing the loss of the "Amazon Cloud"!
I had a vague idea of how "Clouds" worked, but was not aware that whole websites lived & had their existence inside them. ;D
I also, in my naivety,thought Amazon sold books & stuff,not owning a"Cloud"!
Did anyone else lose access to a favourite website during this event?

You do know that cloud computing is just the same as server on internet.

You do know that cloud computing is just the same as server on internet.

With a few twists.

And Amazon is indeed a big (some say the biggest) player in the field. The reworked their platform some time ago, splitting it in a generic part, providing cloud services, and special parts, running their book and whatnot shops on top of their own cloud services.

Google is really pissed about this, because they did a similar thing, but their services are not very popular. Amazon got it largely right for all kinds of e-commerce, because they have a big, demanding e-commerce user on top of their cloud services, themself.
I delete PMs unread. If you have something to say, say it in public.
